The Liu Bianggong 刘卞功
Paul PengShare
Liu Bianggong was a native of Binzhou (now part of Shandong Province) during the reign of Emperor Huizong in the Northern Song Dynasty. From his youth, he had a devotion to Taoism. After encountering an extraordinary person who taught him the method of refining elixirs, he abandoned worldly affairs and lived in a cave dwelling.

Emperor Huizong sent envoys to summon him three times, but Liu did not respond. The emperor thus held him in even greater admiration and respect, and bestowed upon him the title "Mr. Gaoshang" (Mr. Noble and Unworldly).
In the first year of the Jingkang era of Emperor Qinzong (1126 AD), Liu traveled around the regions of Bashu (covering modern Sichuan and Chongqing), Jiangzhe (covering modern Jiangsu and Zhejiang), and Hengxiang (around modern Hengyang and Xiangjiang River in Hunan). He imparted the method of "Nose Connecting the Three Swords, Brain Refining the Nine Elixirs" to Li Cizhong from Tonglu, who later also attained the Dao (Taoist enlightenment).
