This matter was reported to the imperial court, and Emperor Renzong issued a special edict to return and bestow the seal to the ancestral altar, enabling Liu Dabin to pass on the Taoist lineage.

He was imperial conferred the title of "True Person of Dongguan Xingmiao Xuanying" and succeeded as the 45th Patriarch of the Maoshan Shangqing School (a major branch of Taoism).
He authored Records of Maoshan, which has been handed down to later generations.
