The Liu Daohe 刘道合

Paul Peng
Liu Daohe, also known by the courtesy name Aidao, was a native of Wanqiu in Chenzhou (present-day Huaiyang County, Henan Province) during the Sui and Tang dynasties.
As recorded in The Old Book of Tang · Biographies of Hermits: "From his childhood, he harbored the ambition of living as a hermit. He went to Anyang Mountain and resided in a cave to practice Taoism."

At the end of the Sui Dynasty, he moved to Su Mountain and received Taoist teachings from Meng Shen, the abbot of Xiantang Temple. Later, he lived in seclusion on Huo Mountain, where he was granted the "Three Heavens Orthodox Unity Alliance Authority Summoning Talismans" by a divine being. From then on, every application of his Taoist arts proved effective without exception.

During the Wude period (618-626), he entered Song Mountain and became a Taoist companion of Pan Shizheng. Emperor Gaozong of the Tang Dynasty issued an imperial edict to establish Taiyi Temple and appointed him to reside there.

In the Xianheng period (670-674), the emperor summoned him to refine elixirs. Unfortunately, he passed away after the elixirs were completed but before they could be presented to the emperor.
