The Liu Daoqing

The Liu Daoqing

Paul Peng
Liu Daoqing was a figure at the end of the Yuan Dynasty.

His courtesy name was Chunqingzi. He became a Taoist monk in his childhood and served as the abbot of Yangtai Palace. He was of noble virtue: he took not even a tiny portion of the palace’s permanent property; during years of famine, he used his own assets to aid the poor.

When renovating palace halls, he always contributed money and effort; when crafting ritual implements for sacred deities, he provided funds from his own private savings to cover the expenses.

His Taoist attainments were renowned for prosperity in his time and became known to the imperial court. He was officially conferred the title "Master Tongzhen Jingyuan Chongsù" (Master of Universal Truth, Quiet Source, and Pure Simplicity) and granted a golden-edged purple robe, while being appointed to oversee affairs at the Great Yangtai Wanshou Palace in Xingguo.
