The Liu Daozhen 刘道真

The Liu Daozhen 刘道真

Paul Peng
Liu Daozhen was the Successor Master of the Taiyi School of Taoism during the Yuan Dynasty.

He was in charge of grand sacrificial rituals, and these rituals were believed to have manifested spiritual efficacy. Emperor Shizu of the Yuan Dynasty (Kublai Khan) repeatedly issued edicts summoning Liu Daozhen to inquire about the rituals dedicated to Taiyi (the Supreme Unity, a key cosmic deity in Taoism).

In the third year of the Dade era (1299), he was bestowed the title of "Yandao Miaoying Xuanyi Zhenren" (True Person of Profound Unity, who Expounds the Dao and Responds Miraculously).
