The Liu Dechang 刘得常

Liu Dechang was a native of Jinling (present-day Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province) at the end of the Tang Dynasty.
At the age of seventeen, he composed The Song of the Great Dao. He studied under Wu Fatong as his mentor and mastered all of Wu’s Taoist arts. He resided at Ziyang Taoist Temple and did not step outside his house for ten years.

He was officially conferred the title "Mr. Dongwei Yuanjing" (Mr. Profoundly Insightful and Primordially Serene) and served as the 18th Patriarch of the Shangqing School (Supreme Clarity School) of Mount Mao Taoism.
