The Liu Gongdao 刘公道

Paul Peng
Liu Gongdao (? - 1337) was a native of Liu'an (now part of Anhui Province) during the Yuan Dynasty. As recorded in Liuan Zhou Zhi (Gazetteer of Liu'an Prefecture): "He attained profound Taoist virtues and raised funds to build Shangzhen Hall, where the incense offerings (a sign of devout worship) flourished."

In the 8th year of the Dade reign period of Emperor Chengzong of the Yuan Dynasty (1304), he was summoned to the imperial palace. He cured the imperial concubines of their illnesses using Taoist medical principles, and was thus bestowed the title "Zhenren Daopan" (Immortal in Charge of Taoist Affairs).

He passed away due to illness in the 3rd year of the Zhiyuan reign period of Emperor Shundi of the Yuan Dynasty (1337).
