The Liu Jing 刘京

The Liu Jing 刘京

Paul Peng
Liu Jing was a native of Nanyang (between present-day Jiyuan County and Qi County in Henan Province) during the Western Han Dynasty.
Styled Taixuan, Volume Twelve of The Comprehensive Mirror of True Immortals Through the Ages Who Embodied Taoism records that in his youth, he once served as a court attendant to Emperor Xiaowen of the Han Dynasty. Later, he abandoned his official post to become a Taoist practitioner, studying under Taoist Zhang from Handan to learn the secret techniques of taking Zhuying (a kind of elixir) as food. He also studied under Jizi Xun, receiving teachings on twelve practices of the Five Emperors' Spiritual Flight and Six Jia, as well as various secret essentials such as the true forms of the ten immortal continents.

Liu Jing diligently practiced with strict self-discipline. After several years, he was able to command ghosts and spirits, summon wind and rain, and foresee good fortune and misfortune. He had dozens of disciples, among whom Huangfu Long was the most famous.
