The Liu Qingyuan 刘清渊
Paul PengShare
Liu Qingyuan was a native of Yizhou (now part of Hebei Province) during the Jin and Yuan dynasties.
According to Baoding Fu Zhi (Records of Baoding Prefecture), Qingyuan was innately intelligent and perceptive, and possessed the demeanor of a celestial being with the aura of a Taoist master.

His father, recognizing his exceptional nature, sent him to Xuandu Taoist Temple, where he paid respects to Great Master Chonghe and studied under him as a disciple.
When he grew up, he had few desires and little craving for worldly things, and always took joy in tranquility. He was thus bestowed the title "Great Master Tongzhen Baode" (Master of Penetrating Truth and Preserving Virtue).
Even when he was over eighty years old, his vitality and spirit remained undiminished. People regarded him as a "dixing xian" (a Taoist immortal who lives among mortals on earth, rather than ascending to heaven).
