The Liu Xugu 刘虚谷
Paul PengShare
Liu Xugu was a native of Jiujiang (now part of Jiangxi Province) during the Song Dynasty.
From a young age, he admired the Taoist tradition. When he grew up, he practiced the study of "xingming" (the cultivation of one’s nature and life essence—a core Taoist practice focusing on spiritual and physical refinement). He was capable of resolving afflictions and calamities through the wisdom of his inner nature, and his understanding of Taoist doctrines was profound.

He had a close friendship with Zhu Xi (a preeminent Confucian scholar of the Song Dynasty) and authored Huandan Pian (Treatise on the Returning Elixir), which expounds on the essential principles of neidan (Taoist inner alchemy).
