The Liu Yi 刘益

Liu Yi (?–1125) was a native of Jingzhao Lantian (now part of Shaanxi Province) during the Northern Song Dynasty.
According to the record in Volume 52 of Lishi Zhenxian Tidao Tongjian (Comprehensive Mirror of Real Immortals and Their Cultivation of the Dao), Liu Yi built Zizhen Hermitage and practiced spiritual and physical cultivation for sixty years. As a result, his skin was as smooth and lustrous as jade, and he remained light in body and strong in health.

In the first year of the Xuanhe era (1119) of Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty, the emperor sent envoys to invite Liu Yi to the Eastern Capital (Kaifeng, the capital of the Northern Song Dynasty). The emperor asked him about the way to attain longevity and nurture life, and Liu Yi’s answers fully satisfied the emperor. He was treated with great courtesy and generous gifts.
Later, Liu Yi resided in a Buddhist monastery in Huayanchuan until the end of his life.
