The Liu Zhiyan 刘知演
Paul PengShare
Liu Zhiyan was a native of Zhangzi County during the Yuan Dynasty.
He became a Taoist priest in his childhood, and paid homage to Wu Shiyan, the Tidian (administrative head) of the religious order at his home temple, as his teacher. Among all the disciples, Liu Zhiyan was highly regarded as the preeminent one, so he was recommended to serve as the Daozheng (official supervisor of Taoist affairs) of Luzhou.

He was awarded a top-grade ritual robe, conferred the title of "Chongzhen Xuanjing Dashi" (Venerable Master of Pure Tranquility and Profound Truth), and appointed as the abbot of Shenxiao Yuqing Palace.
