The Liu Zongchang 刘宗昶
Paul PengShare
Liu Zongchang was a native of Lishui (present-day Liyang County, Jiangsu Province) at the end of the Southern Song Dynasty. From an early age, he studied under Jiang Zongying. He was humble, obedient, and self-cultivated, devoting himself wholeheartedly to the pursuit of Daoist doctrines.

According to Volume Twelve of Mao Shan Zhi (Records of Mao Mountain), during the Baoyou era (1253-1258), he followed Jiang Zongying to the imperial court and later traveled extensively across mountains and rivers.
After the Yuan Dynasty troops conquered Sichuan, the imperial court repeatedly summoned him, but he refused to take office. He kept his Daoist teachings deeply concealed and lived out his natural lifespan. He was posthumously titled "Mr. Yuanjing".
Liu Zongchang was the 40th Patriarch of the Shangqing School (Supreme Purity School) of Mao Mountain.
