The Lu Taiyi 卢太翼
Paul PengShare
Lu Taiyi was a native of Hejian in the Sui Dynasty (now part of Hebei Province). His courtesy name was Xiezhao. Originally surnamed Zhang, he was a descendant of Zhang Han, a general of the Qin Dynasty.
At the age of seven, he entered school and could recite thousands of words a day, earning him the title of "child prodigy."

Lu Taiyi was erudite and had an excellent memory. Beyond the works of the Hundred Schools of Thought, he was particularly proficient in the studies of zhanhou (astronomical observation for omens) and suanli (calendar calculation). By observing changes in celestial phenomena and natural phenomena, and deducing the evolution of calendars over time, he could predict unknown events—his predictions often proved accurate, and the imperial court held him in high regard.
Later, he lived in seclusion in Mount Bailu, then moved to Zhuyu Xunya in Mount Linlü. Within a few years, he relocated again to Mount Wutai, where he initiated dozens of disciples.
He later passed away from illness in the Eastern Capital, Luoyang.
