The Lu Zhirui 鲁志瑞

Lu Zhirui was a native of Huangzhou (now part of Hubei Province) in the early Yuan Dynasty.

Hearing that Chen Zhixuan, styled Anyangzi, of Huizhou, embodied the spiritual essence of the Quanzhen School of Taoism, he became a Taoist monk and studied under Chen as his disciple.

Chen Zhixuan cherished Lu Zhirui for his honesty and simplicity, and imparted all his knowledge to him without reservation.

After Anyangzi passed away, Lu Zhirui served as the abbot of Lingyang Guan (Lingyang Taoist Temple) in Huizhou.

In the 20th year of the Zhiyuan era (1283), a major flood destroyed nearly all the buildings of the temple. Lu Zhirui worked diligently to repair and rebuild it, converting the original foundation into the Yuhuang Dian (Jade Emperor Hall). The local people came to offer incense there in great numbers; because they believed the Heavenly Emperor was above, watching and overseeing their conduct, the townsfolk dared not act against ritual propriety. In every word and deed, they followed only reason and morality.

As a result, the people in the Huizhou area turned to good, the local customs became honest and upright, and the common people lived and worked in peace and contentment.
