The original title of this work is annotated as "Compiled by Wang Xuanhe, a Land and Sea Feathered Guest of the Great Tang Dynasty".
Wang Xuanhe was a Daoist priest active during the reigns of Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu Zetian of the Tang Dynasty.

The original text comprised four volumes and is included in the Taiping Bu (Taiping Section) of the Daozang (Daoist Canon).
As a Daoist encyclopedic compilation (a genre of traditional Chinese reference works that thematically excerpts content from earlier texts), this book organizes passages from various Daoist scriptures by categories, focusing on buildings associated with immortals and Daoist priests—such as towers, pavilions, palaces, temples, and residences.
It consists of a total of six categories:
- Xianguan Pin (Category of Immortal Temples)
- Louge Pin (Category of Pavilions and Towers)
- Xianfang Pin (Category of Immortal Chambers)
- Baotai Pin (Category of Jeweled Terraces)
- Qiongshi Pin (Category of Jade Chambers)
- Zhaiyu Lingmiao Pin (Category of Residences and Sacred Temples)
The entire work cites over 170 types of Daoist classics, most of which are ancient texts from the Six Dynasties period (220–589 CE). It serves as a valuable resource for researchers in fields such as Daoist studies, ancient Chinese architecture, and medieval religious culture.
