The meaning of Forgetting in Taoism

It is an important method and code of conduct in Taoist cultivation.

The meaning of Forgetting in Taoism
Taoism holds that only the word "forget" can lead one into the Great Dao. A king should forget his kingship, an official his official position, one trapped in troubles forget his troubles, and one attached to achievements forget his achievements. Forget the physical form to nourish vital Qi, forget vital energy to nourish the spirit, forget the spirit to nourish emptiness; forget attachments, forget materiality, forget the mind, forget the realm, forget the self, forget others—abandoning all attachments, abiding in emptiness and nothingness, and merging with the Great Dao, one can enter the Tao. Therefore, the method of "sitting in forgetfulness" recorded in the Zhuangzi represents the realm of the True Man in Taoist cultivation.
