Meng Xun'an was a native of Xishu (now part of Sichuan Province) during the reigns of Emperors Ningzong and Lizong of the Southern Song Dynasty.

He resided in seclusion on the West Peak of Mount Emei. In the 11th year of the Jiading era of Emperor Ningzong of the Song Dynasty (1218), he traveled to Fuzhou to visit Peng Si and received the Jinhua Chongbi Danjing (The Golden Flower and Azure Jade Alchemy Scripture) from Bai Yuchan.
In the 13th year of the Jiading era (1220), while wandering through the Baihe Dongtian (White Crane Heavenly Grotto, a sacred Taoist site), he met the Real Person Lan Yuanbai, who imparted to him the esoteric essentials of the Nine-Transformation Golden Elixir. Later, after succeeding in his alchemical cultivation, Meng Xun'an compiled and wrote the text Jinhua Chongbi Danjing Mi Zhi (Esoteric Essentials of the Golden Flower and Azure Jade Alchemy Scripture).
