The Numinous Treasure Golden Register Preliminary Rite 金箓大斋宿启仪

The compiler is unnamed.

Judging from its content and literary style, it was presumably composed in the Song Dynasty, and is suspected to be one of the revised and abridged ritual texts of the Golden Register Fasting by Yang Jie, Zhang Shangying and other Taoist scholars of the Northern Song Dynasty. It is incorporated into the Section of Ritual Norms under the Cavern Mystery Section of The Daozang.

This text records the Vigil and Inauguration Ritual, which was performed at the very outset of erecting the altar for the Grand Golden Register Fasting. Its ritual proceedings include paying homage to the master and mindful invocation, incantations to the Five Directions, beating the ritual drums, proclaiming the ritual positions, ten recitations of prayers, invoking the gods and burning incense, among other rites. The ritual is notably more elaborate and intricate than the Ritual for the Consecration of the Golden Register Fasting compiled by Du Guangting. Its benedictory invocations also express prayers for the consolidation of the imperial reign, the longevity of the sage sovereign and universal peace under heaven.
