It was annotated by Du Daojian, a Taoist priest of the Yuan Dynasty.
It consists of four volumes and is included in the Yujue (Commentaries) category of the Dongshen (Mystery Revealing) Section of the Daozang (Taoist Canon).

The purpose of this book is to clarify the imperial way and imperial virtue. Since Laozi was originally the Archivist of the Eastern Library, the author quotes the history of imperial governance from the Shangshu (Book of Documents) to interpret the Laozi, and also incorporates the theory of mind and nature.
