The Pan Fuyuan 潘复圆

Pan Fuyuan (?–1797) was a native of Lumu, Gusu (present-day Suzhou, Jiangsu Province) during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty, and his literary name was Xuefeng.

From childhood (when he still retained his innocence), he admired Taoism. He studied under Wang Yiyang and was the adopted grandson of Gu Cangzhou.

Later, he went to Dengyun Guan (Ascending Cloud Temple) on Tianzhen Mountain in Hangzhou, where he studied under Qian Yang'ao and became a disciple who received scripture teachings. He uphold the four disciplines of the doctrinal and preceptorial system of the Longmen (Dragon Gate) School of Taoism, pursued them comprehensively, and dedicated himself to studying and reflecting on Taoist teachings. As a result, his Taoist practice advanced significantly—this was truly rare at a time when the traditions of the Longmen School’s preceptorial lineage were declining.

In the second year of the Jiaqing reign (1797), he passed away due to illness in Gusu.

He was a 14th-generation Preceptor (a Taoist master specializing in precepts) of the Longmen School.
