The Pan Taijing 潘太静

The Pan Taijing 潘太静

Paul Peng
Pan Taijing (1585-1712) lived during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. He was a native of Jiading, Jiangsu (alternatively said to be Xiuzhou, Songjiang), with the courtesy name Ding'an and self-styled literary name Wujinzi.

According to records in Bojian Xu (Continuation of the Alms Bowl Mirror), Yilin (Forest of Unofficial Records), and Jueyun Daotong Xinchuan (Torch Transmission of the Taoist Orthodox Lineage from the Awakened Cloud), he studied under Master Yunyin (a Taoist precept master). As a Taoist of the Longmen Sect, he did not receive the Chuzhen Jie (Initial Truth Precepts), Zhongji Jie (Middle Purity Precepts), and Tianxian Dajie (Heavenly Immortal Grand Precepts) until he was over a hundred years old.

He converted to the orthodox Taoist lineage, with no indulgence in personal preferences. He was content with simple and rough food, devoting himself wholeheartedly to Taoist cultivation. He was skilled in fuqi (qigong breathing exercises) and dietary therapy, and resided in Xiaotaoyuan (Little Peach Blossom Spring).

He was the 9th-generation lvshi (precept master) of the Longmen Sect.
