The Pan Yuangui 潘元珪

The Pan Yuangui 潘元珪

Paul Peng
Pan Yuangui, a native of Suzhou, lived in the early Qing Dynasty. His courtesy name was Yunzhang, and his literary name was Wu'an.

In his youth, he became a Taoist Priest at Yuanmiao Temple in Suzhou, where he studied under Hu Deguo and fully inherited the secret methods of the Five Thunders.

After Hu Deguo passed away, whenever there were major Taoist ritual ceremonies (jiao) in the Wu region, Pan Yuangui was invited to preside over them, and his reputation spread to the imperial capital.

During the Yongzheng period (1723-1735), he was summoned to the capital. His prayers were all efficacious, and he was awarded a plaque inscribed with "Jinmen Yike" (Guest of the Golden Gate, a title of honor) before returning home.
