Peng Si was a native of Changle (now Changle City, Fujian Province) during the Southern Song Dynasty, and his courtesy name was Jiyi.

His family had a long history of holding high-ranking official positions. From a young age, he was known for his literary talent. Later, he studied under Bai Yuchan (a renowned Taoist master of the Southern Song Dynasty) and learned from him the Taoist esoteric arts, including the Taiyi Daogui Fire Talisman, the Scriptures on the Nine-Cauldron Elixir of Gold, Lead, Cinnabar, and Mercury (core texts of Taoist external alchemy), and the Method of the Purple Clouds: Summoning Winds and Thunder. He then lived in seclusion on Helin Mountain and adopted the literary name "Helin Shanren" (Hermit of Helin Mountain).
Every day, he found enjoyment in reading the works of Laozi and Zhuangzi (foundational texts of Taoism). He used Taoist talismans and diagrams to treat illnesses for the people, while avoiding social interactions with secular society. Later, he passed away in Fuzhou.

He authored The Golden Flower and Azure Elixir Scripture, which was handed down to subsequent generations; the elixir-refining methods recorded in this work belong to the Southern School of Taoism (a major branch of Taoist alchemy focusing on internal cultivation).

He also compiled annotations on Laozi (Tao Te Ching) from various scholars of the Song Dynasty, compiling them into Collected Annotations on the Dao De Jing in eighteen volumes.

In addition, he wrote Fu of Helin Mountain, which has also been preserved and passed down.
