Composed by Jia Shanxiang of the Northern Song Dynasty.
It was roughly completed in the Bingyin year of the Yuanyou reign period of Emperor Zhezong of the Song Dynasty (1086).
Consisting of one volume, it is included in the Yujue (Jade Commentary) category of the Dongshen Section of the Daozang (Daoist Canon).
The Phonetic Guide to Zhuangzi
This work provides phonetic annotations for the difficult characters in the Zhuangzi by using the methods of direct phonetic notation and fanqie (a traditional Chinese method of indicating pronunciation). Its purpose is to assist readers in studying the thirty-three chapters of the Zhuangzi.
The existing version in the Daozang only preserves the phonetic annotations for the first fourteen chapters; the content from Chapter of Heavenly Movement onwards is lost.
