The Pure Rules of Complete Perfection 全真清规

Compiled by Lu Daohe (style Tongxuanzi), a Taoist priest of the Quanzhen Dao in the Yuan Dynasty. One volume, included in the Zhengyi Section of The Daozang.

This book collects part of the precepts, rituals and essays of Quanzhen Dao, divided into ten chapters.

The Pure Rules of Complete Perfection

Guidelines for Novices and Order of Hairpin and Robe explain the rules for child novices entering the religious life and the initiation ceremonies for new practitioners. Visiting Masters and Traveling and Monastery Rules and Seniority set forth the etiquette for traveling Taoists paying homage to masters and residing in hermitages. Rules for Sitting Meditation and Ode to the Meditation Chamber elaborate the principles and regulations for quiet sitting and concentration practice. Three Occasions Not to Rise and Substance and Function of Quanzhen present the cultivation theory and teachings, requiring full concentration without rising during meditation, scripture recitation and meals.

Punishment Edict of Patriarch Wang Chongyang lists ten rules set by the founder, with penalties for violations. Ascension Address by Master Liaozhen briefly recounts the founding and flourishing of Quanzhen Dao, urging fellow practitioners to cultivate together and attain immortality.

Rules of the Eternal Spring Immortal lists precepts set by Qiu Chuji, requiring those residing in monasteries to remain pure and secluded, take seeing the nature as substance, nourishing life as function, be gentle, modest and harmonious, uphold compassion as the foundation, convenience as the gate, avoid greed, not give rise to anger, and not be attached to sound and form.

Finally, Family Letter by Master Langranzi teaches that those who leave home must sever greed and anger, and renounce sensual desires. It is a letter written by Master Langranzi of the Northern Song Dynasty to his wife and children when he abandoned his family to cultivate the Dao.
