The Mysterious Rites of the Purple Sovereign for Refining and Delivering Souls

It is believed to date from the Ming Dynasty.
Consisting of one scroll, it is included in the Supplementary Daozang.
This text records the ritual procedures for refining and delivering departed souls. The rituals include burning talisman charts, beating ritual drums, reciting divine incantations, invoking deities, presenting memorials to heaven, the chief Taoist priest reading aloud prayers and benedictions, lighting and offering incense, all Taoist priests chanting in unison, and issuing spirit-conducting certificates.
The deity invoked in the ritual is the Purple Sovereign Supreme Mysterious Heavenly Lord, hence the title The Mysterious Rites of the Purple Sovereign for Refining and Delivering Souls.
