The Qiao Qiandao 乔潜道

Qiao Qiandao was a native of Pingyang during the Jin Dynasty. His courtesy name was Deguang, and his literary name was Chongxuzi (Master Chongxu).

As recorded in the middle volume of Zhongnan Shan Zuting Xianzhen Neichuan (Inner Biographies of the Immortal Sages from the Ancestral Court of Zhongnan Mountain): In the 12th year of the Dading era (1172), he became a disciple of Ma Danyang and resided at the Liujiang Ancestral Court (of the Quanzhen School). There, he took on laborious tasks such as gathering firewood and fetching water, enduring all kinds of hardships.

Ma Danyang highly valued him and imparted to him the profound Taoist doctrines (referred to as "Xuanzhi," the mysterious essence of Taoism). In the 22nd year of the Dading era (1182), when Ma Danyang returned eastward, Qiao Qiandao traveled to Heshui County together with Li Chongdao; they co-founded Taiqing Guan (Taiqing Taoist Temple) there. In the 2nd year of the Mingchang era (1191), by order of Qiu Changchun (a renowned Quanzhen Taoist master), he propagated Taoist teachings and initiated new disciples in the Hedong region (a historical area covering parts of present-day southern Shanxi Province). In the 2nd year of the Taihe era (1202), he returned to Heshui County once again.

In the 5th year of the Zhenyou era (1217), Qiao Qiandao passed away without suffering from any illness, at the age of 81.
