The Ren Tianran 任天然

Paul Peng
Ren Tianran lived during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties and served as the abbot of Baxian An (Eight Immortals Nunnery) in Xi'an.

In the first year of the Kangxi reign (1662), he raised funds to expand Baxian An, held a precept-transmitting ceremony, and initiated hundreds of disciples into Taoism. Through these efforts, Baxian An became a Shifang Conglin (a public Taoist monastery open to monks from all over the country) of the Quanzhen School in the Guanzhong region during the Qing Dynasty, reaching the height of its prosperity for a time.
