The Supreme Clarity Formula for Practicing the Unbinding of Embryonic Essence

As an early classic text of the Shangqing School (Supreme Clarity School), it likely originated during the Northern and Southern Dynasties (420–589 CE).

Consisting of one scroll, it is included in the “Jade Formulas Category” (Yujue Lei) of the Dongxuan Bu (Mysterious Grotto Section) of the Daozang (Taoist Canon).

This text expounds on the method of “contemplating deities (cunshen) and wearing talismans” to unbind the embryonic knots within the human body.

Its content and wording are largely identical to those of The Supreme Clarity Scripture of the Inner Record on the Transformation of Embryonic Essence by the Nine Elixirs. It is suspected that this text was compiled by Taoist priests of the Northern and Southern Dynasties by excerpting and adapting the aforementioned scripture.
