The Shang Xiqia 商栖霞

Shang Xiqia was a native of Liyang (now Hexian County, Anhui Province) in the Tang Dynasty. During the Dali era (766-779), he was officially registered as a Taoist at Baishi Mountain in Hezhou.

He practiced daoyin (a traditional Chinese exercise similar to qigong), the art of ingesting elixirs, and taixi (a Taoist breathing technique for vitality cultivation), and abstained from grain (a core Taoist practice) for more than 30 years.
