Shangqing Jade Tower Emperor Lord’s Diagram and Secret of the Five Dippers and Three Unities (Shangqing Jinque Dijun Wudou Sanyi Tujue), an early classic of the Shangqing School, was probably compiled during the Southern and Northern Dynasties or the Sui-Tang dynasties.
It consists of one scroll and is included in the Lingtu Lei (Spiritual Diagrams Category) of the Dongshen Bu (Divine Grotto Section) of the Daozang (Taoist Canon).
Volume 49 of Yunji Qiqian (Seven Lots of the Cloud Satchel) also includes an excerpt of this text, titled "Jade Tower Emperor Lord’s Oral Instructions on the Scripture of the True Unity of the Five Dippers and Three Yuans" (Jinque Dijun Wudou Sanyuan Zhenyi Jing Koujue).
This scripture falsely claims to be a transmission from the Jade Tower Posterior Sage Emperor Lord (Jinque Housheng Dijun) to the immortal Juanzi, and focuses on the method of preserving the spirit and flying to the Dippers.
The method specifies: on the Spring Equinox, Summer Solstice, Autumn Equinox, Winter Solstice, and either the 1st or 15th day of the sixth lunar month, at midnight (the Zi hour), enter a ritual room, close your eyes, and sit quietly. Visualize yourself, together with the Sanyuan Zhenyi (True Unity of the Three Yuans) and Sanqing (Three Ministers) deities within your body—seven beings in total—riding on five-colored misty qi (vital energy), ascending together to the Five Stars of the Big Dipper (namely Yangming Star, Danyuan Star, Yinjing Star, Beiji Star, and Tianguan Star). There, you will meet the true deities of the Dipper Palace, who will bestow upon you items such as true light, precious books, and talismans.
Additionally, you should contemplate yourself, along with the Sanyi and Sanqing deities, riding on purple qi to ascend to the Taiji (the Big Dipper). Let go of your physical awareness, feeling as if your body has dissolved, and experience a trance-like state of ascending to heaven. "In this way, the Dao of immortality draws near."
This is an early Shangqing School method for preserving and upholding the Sanyuan Zhenyi, originating from Taishang Suling Dongxuan Dayou Miaojing (The Supreme Primordial Spirit, Mysterious Grotto, and Great Profound Wonderful Scripture).
