The Shangqing Jinshu Yuzi [Dongfang] Shangjing 上清金书玉字[洞房]上经

Shangqing Golden Book and Jade Characters [Bridal Chamber] Supreme Scripture (Shangqing Jinshu Yuzi [Dongfang] Shangjing), one of the early classics of the Shangqing School, was probably compiled during the Eastern Jin and Southern Dynasties.

Volume 14 of Zhengao (True Declarations) quotes the Fangzhu Dongfang Jing (Fangzhu Bridal Chamber Scripture), which is believed to be this very text.

In addition, books such as Wushang Miyao (The Supreme Secret Essentials), Sandong Zhunang (Precious Satchel of the Three Grottoes), and Shangqing Dao Lei Shixiang (Matters and Phenomena Related to the Shangqing Dao) also quote this scripture, with titles like "Golden Book Bridal Chamber Scripture" (Jinshu Dongfang Jing) or "Inner Scripture of the Bridal Chamber" (Dongfang Neijing).

The original scripture consists of one scroll and is included in the Fangfa Lei (Methods Category) of the Dongshen Bu (Divine Grotto Section) of the Daozang (Taoist Canon).

This scripture falsely claims to be a transmission from Lord Qingtong of Fangzhu (Fangzhu Qingtongjun), and focuses on the method of contemplating the Nine Stars of the Big Dipper. There are two diagrams at the beginning of the scroll.

The first is the "Diagram for Contemplating the Nine Stars of the Big Dipper". In the diagram, a person has the Nine Stars of the Big Dipper above their head, appearing to be in a state of contemplating the deities. The practitioner points their hands respectively to the Yuan Star and Niu Star of the Big Dipper, steps on Zun Star and Di Star with their feet, and simultaneously contemplates Tai Star, Gang Star, Ji Star, Guan Star, Chen Star, Huagai Star, and others. After the contemplation, they recite a prayer; once the prayer is finished, they lie down in the posture corresponding to the Big Dipper.

The second is the "Diagram for Contemplating the Deities of the Bridal Chamber". In the diagram, a Green Boy sits inside the Bridal Chamber, contemplating the soul of the Central Yellow Old Lord sitting face-to-face with their own soul. It is stated that if Taoist practitioners contemplate according to the diagrams, recite prayers, tap their teeth, and swallow saliva when lying down and getting up in the morning and evening: "Practicing this for nine years will eliminate mortality and elevate one to a life of immortality"; "Practicing this for eighteen years will bring the Nine Essences to descend".

The Nine Essences refer to the deities of the Nine Stars of the Big Dipper. Among them, the deity of the Eighth Star (Di Star) is "High and Supreme Jade Emperor" (Gaoshang Yuhuang), and the deity of the Ninth Star (Zun Star) is "Supreme Subtlety Emperor Lord" (Taiwei Dijun)—both are great deities. It is claimed that catching a glimpse of one of them can extend one’s lifespan by 300 years, and catching a glimpse of both can extend it by 600 years.
