The Shangqing Supreme Heaven Hidden Book: Profound Truth Grotto-Flying Two Radiances Scripture

The Shangqing Supreme Heaven Hidden Book: Profound Truth Grotto-Flying Two Radiances Scripture (Shangqing Taixiao Yinshu Yuanzhen Dongfei Erjing Jing) is one of the early classics of the Shangqing School, presumably dating to the Eastern Jin Dynasty and the Southern Dynasties (317–589 CE).

This text is already quoted in Wushang Miyao (The Supreme Secret Essentials). Originally, it was a part of The Supreme Jade Pendant and Golden Bell: Taiji Golden Scripture Upper Classic; later, it was separated and became an independent text. It is included in the Zhengyi (Orthodox Unity) Section of the Daozang (Taoist Canon).

This text describes the method of "resolving transgressions through the Five Separation Days, transferring death, and granting life." It states that the days of Renshen, Bingshen, Wushen, Jiashen, and Gengshen (five days in the Chinese sexagenary cycle, collectively called the "Five Separation Days") are when the gods of heaven inspect and assess the merits and demerits of all living beings, "separating those who are good or evil, and those bound for life or death."

Taoist practitioners should, on these five days, "confess their sins to the Great Yin (lunar/celestial feminine principle), cultivate life force through the Great Yang (solar/celestial masculine principle), erase their names from the Register of Death kept by the Northern Emperor, and seek immortality from the Five Planets."

The cultivation method prescribes that on these five days, practitioners enter a chamber to burn incense at three times—dawn, midday, and midnight. They then confess their sins and apologize to deities including the Supreme Jade Emperor, the Jade Dawn Supreme Lord, and the Great Plain Three Yuan Lords, while contemplating the Lords of the Five Directions and the Five Planets.

It is claimed that practicing this method for seven years enables one to transfer the fate of death and attain longevity (or be granted life).
