The Scripture on Cultivation Methods in Shangqing
The author of The Scripture on Cultivation Methods in Shangqing is unknown. It was probably compiled between the Tang and Song dynasties.
In the Southern Song Dynasty, the Secret Catalogue recorded it as "One Volume of the Shangqing Supreme True Cultivation Formula"; the History of the Song Dynasty·Treatise on Arts and Literature listed it as "One Volume of the Shangqing Cultivation Formula" — these two references are believed to refer to this very scripture.

The existing version in the Taoist Canon is a one-volume work, included in the "Formula Category" of the "Dongxuan Section".
As a compilation of essential Taoist methods of the Shangqing School, this book collects dozens of secret cultivation methods from various early Shangqing scriptures.
These methods include: restraining the Three Souls and the Seven Poisons, inducing sound sleep, seeking good dreams and warding off misfortunes, divining good or bad omens for mountains and residences, using divine tallies and divine staffs, rescuing during solar and lunar eclipses, bathing, vegetarian dining, massage, absorbing vital energy (qi), visualizing deities, warding off evil, and taboos for cultivation.
Its content and writing style are basically the same as those of The Scripture on Essential Matters for Cultivating the Body in Shangqing, leading to the speculation that the two books were originally the same classic.
See the entry for that scripture.
