The Shangqing Zhongzhen Jiaojie Dexing Jing 上清众真教戒德行经

Shangqing Scripture of Precepts and Virtues Taught by the Assembly of True Immortals (Shangqing Zhongzhen Jiaojie Dexing Jing), author unknown.

Judging from its content and wording, it seems to have been compiled by Taoist priests of the Shangqing School during the Southern and Northern Dynasties. Taoist texts such as Daodian Lun (Treatise on Taoist Canons), Sandong Zhunang (Precious Satchel of the Three Grottoes), and Shangqing Dao Lei Shixiang (Matters and Phenomena Related to the Shangqing Dao) all quote the Zhongzhen Jie Jing (Scripture of Precepts by the Assembly of True Immortals), which refers to this very text. The original version consisted of three scrolls; the existing version in the Daozang (Taoist Canon) is combined into two scrolls and included in the Jielü Lei (Precepts Category) of the Dongxuan Bu (Mysterious Grotto Section).

This scripture compiles twenty-two pieces of teachings supposedly descended and imparted by the assembly of Shangqing true immortals, including Lord Qingtong of Fangzhu (Fangzhu Qingtongjun), Lord Wang of Xicheng (Xicheng Wangjun), Lady Wei of Nanyue (Nanyue Wei Furen), Lord Mao (Maojun), and True Person Zhou of Ziyang (Ziyang Zhenren Zhoujun).

Most of its content exhorts people to pursue the Dao diligently and points out the essential principles of cultivating the Dao. Its wording is mostly seen in Volume 6 of Zhengao (True Declarations) compiled by Tao Hongjing of the Liang Dynasty, so it is suspected that this text was adapted by later generations who extracted content from Zhengao.
