The Shaoyang School 少阳派

Shaoyang School
The Neidan (internal alchemy) school is said to be handed down from Wang Xuanfu, the Shaoyang Emperor of Donghua Purple Mansion, hence the name Shaoyang School. It is claimed that Wang Shaoyang passed it on to Zhong Liquan, who then passed it on to Lü Dongbin. Later, this school gave rise to various branches such as the Southern Sect, Northern Sect, Middle Sect, Eastern Sect, Western Sect, Qingcheng Sect, Kongtong Sect, and Feng Sect.

Another branch is said to be inherited from Guanzi, the True Person of Wenshi, and was passed down by the Mayi Daoist to Chen Tuan and the True Person Huolong. The Wenshi School takes emptiness and non-being as its origin, belonging to the supreme and true wonderful Dao. It emphasizes sudden transcendence and direct entry, focusing on cultivating nature while also cultivating life.

The Shaoyang School, on the other hand, advocates the dual cultivation of nature and life, refining and nourishing Yin and Yang. It starts with the method of "having actions" and progresses to the method of "non-action," which is accessible and understandable to people with clear steps. As a result, it has been widely spread. Hence, there is a saying in Neidan immortality studies that the Wenshi School is the highest, while the Shaoyang School is the largest.
