The Sheng Qingya 盛青崖

Sheng Qingya was a native of Tongcheng, Anhui Province, who lived during the transition from the late Ming Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty.

He also went by the name Jin Dadi, and styled himself Qiao Yun (Woodcutter of Clouds), Tuimi Shanren (Hermit of Seclusion and Secrecy), Baiyun Laoren (Old Man of White Clouds), and Jinzhu Laoren (Old Man of Golden Tower). In the late Ming Dynasty, he obtained the title of Jinshi (a successful candidate in the highest imperial examination), after which he lived in seclusion at Tianzhu Guan (Tianzhu Taoist Temple) on Tianzhu Mountain in Yuhang.

He was erudite and knowledgeable, and compared himself to Guan Zhong and Yue Yi—two renowned statesmen and strategists in ancient China. He maintained a close friendship with Tao Jing’an and Huang Shouyuan; additionally, he formed spiritual friendships (fangwai zhiyou) with Buddhist Chan masters such as Ouyi, Jianmi, and Dongming.

His works include Sanjiang Shishi Quanji (Complete Collection of Poetry and History of the Three Rivers), which was engraved and published to circulate among the public. Accounts of his life and deeds can be found in Jingai Xindeng (The Lamp in the Golden Hut)
