Shi Zhongyuan, a native of Guilin in Guangxi during the Song Dynasty, was also known by his literary name Guihuazi.
In his youth, he became a Taoist priest and lived in seclusion at Qixingyan (Seven Star Cave).

He was skilled in writing poetry and prose, and most of his works expounded on the profound doctrines of Taoism.
He passed away due to illness during the Tianxi era of Emperor Zhenzong of the Song Dynasty (1017–1021) and left behind a collection of works titled Guihua Ji (The Collection of Guihua).
