The Shu Xuji 舒虚寂
Paul PengShare
Shu Xuji, a native of Kaizhou (now Kaixian County, Sichuan Province) during the Mid-Tang Dynasty, was styled Dezhen. His family had been engaged in farming for generations, yet Shu Xuji alone was fond of the doctrines of Huangdi (the Yellow Emperor) and Laozi (the founder of Taoism)—the core teachings of Taoism.

He studied under Heavenly Master Zhai Fayan, from whom he received the transmission of the Supreme Method of the Zhenyuan Ce Spiritual Talismans and Registers. He practiced the Zhenyuan Taoist path and later resided at Tongma Guan (Tongma Taoist Temple) in Xinfan. Endowed with profound Taoist attainments, he was revered and held in high regard by the local people. Afterward, a platform was built at his former residence to commemorate him.
