The Song Lian 宋濂元

Paul Peng

Song Lian was a native of Jinhua who lived during the Yuan and Ming dynasties.

His courtesy name was Jinglian; he also went by the name Xuanzhenzi and styled himself "Xianhua Daoist". He had a thorough knowledge of both ancient and contemporary learning and possessed the talent of a historian.

During the Zhizheng era (1341-1368) of the Yuan Dynasty, he was once recruited to serve as a compiler at the Hanlin Academy of National History, but he firmly declined the appointment. Later, he retreated to Xianhua Mountain and became a Taoist monk.
