The Sun Che 孙彻

Sun Che (303–372)
A figure of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, with the courtesy name Zhongyi.
As recorded in Louguan Xianshi Zhuan Bei (Stele of the Biographies of Louguan’s Founding Masters) and Zhenxian Beiji (Stele Inscriptions of True Immortals): During the Guangchu era of the Former Zhao Dynasty (318–329), he studied under Master Wang (i.e., Wang Jia). He was a man of few words but quick in action—his wit and resourcefulness were not flaunted, and he only focused on concealing his talents and keeping a low profile.

He could observe others’ facial expressions to discern good or ill fortune. He often lived in seclusion, maintaining a pure and ascetic lifestyle, and sat upright with proper posture throughout the day. People of his time called him "Little Alchemist" (Xiao Lianshi). After Master Wang passed away, Sun Che retreated to live in seclusion at Louguan. He died in the eighth year of the Jianyuan era of the Former Qin Dynasty (372).
