The Sun Daoyuan 孙道元

Paul Peng
Sun Daoyuan was a native of Tongchuan, Zhejiang during the Qing Dynasty; his courtesy name was Shanchang and his literary name was Fuyangzi.

As recorded in Zhejiang Tongzhi (General Annals of Zhejiang), Sun Daoyuan became a Taoist at an early age and was officially registered as a Taoist of Huode Temple on Wu Mountain.

When he grew up, he traveled to famous mountains. Upon reaching Mount Longhu, he paid homage to the Celestial Master of the Zhengyi School (Zhengyi Zhang Tianshi) and was taught the "Great Method of the Five Thunders" of the Qingwei School.

After practicing for several years, he accumulated merits through relieving the suffering of others, and his reputation in the Taoist community grew day by day.

Later, he entered Mount Dadi to study the knowledge of "nature and destiny" (a core Taoist concept focusing on cultivating both spiritual nature and life essence). He passed away in the mountain at the age of seventy-four.
