The Sun En 孙恩

Sun En (?–402)
A native of Langya (now part of Linyi, Shandong Province) during the Eastern Jin Dynasty.
His courtesy name was Lingxiu, and his family had long followed the Wudoumi Dao (Way of the Five Pecks of Rice), an important early Taoist school.

After his uncle Sun Tai launched an uprising and was killed, Sun En fled to the sea, gathered his followers, and resolved to take revenge.
He styled himself "General of the Eastern Conquest" and referred to his supporters as "Eternal Beings" (Changshengren). He launched an attack on Kuaiji Commandery, killed Wang Ningzhi, the Interior Minister of the commandery, and his rebellion won support from eight commanderies—his influence shook the imperial court. When Liu Laozhi was dispatched to suppress the rebellion, Sun En was defeated and fled back to the offshore islands; he later fought in successive campaigns across coastal regions. In the first year of the Yuanxing era (402), after suffering a final defeat, Sun En threw himself into the sea and committed suicide, and more than a hundred of his subordinates followed him into the water.
