The Sun Lüdao 孙履道

Sun Lüdao was a figure of the Yuan Dynasty, with the Taoist sobriquet "Mingdezi" (Master of Illuminating Virtue).

He was characterized by a tranquil and simple nature, humility, and a disposition to conceal his brilliance. His Taoist reputation flourished in northern Hebei and southern Henan, and he served as the abbot of Chaoyuan Palace in Bianliang (Kaifeng). Emperor Renzong of the Yuan Dynasty summoned him and bestowed upon him the honorific title "True Person of Taiding, Empty Purity, Literary Elegance, and Leisure" (Taiding Xubai Wenyi Zhenren).

After Lan Daoyuan, the leader of the Quanzhen Sect, was dismissed from his post due to certain incidents, in the first year of the Taiding period (1324) – recommended by Wu Quanjie – Sun Lüdao was officially appointed as "Great Master of Propagating the Dao in the Mysterious Gate of Immortals" by imperial decree. He oversaw Taoist institutions across all circuits, managed Taoist affairs in the Imperial Academy of Letters (Jixian Yuan), and was additionally granted the title "True Person of Taiding, Empty Purity, Literary Elegance, Leisure, and Illuminating Virtue" (Taiding Xubai WenYi Mingde Zhenren).
