Sun Taiguan (1620–1711) was a native of Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, in the early Qing Dynasty. His literary name was Zeyang, and his original name was Fuqing.

As recorded in Jingai Xindeng (The Lamp in the Golden Hut): His parents sacrificed their lives for the Ming Dynasty by taking their own lives. At that time, Sun Taiguan had just reached the age of 20 (the "weak crown" year, a traditional coming-of-age milestone for males in ancient China). Later, he lived in seclusion at Qingluo Nunnery in Xia’ang, Huzhou
Sun Taiguan was well-versed in military strategy and tactics, and proficient in the arts of Qian (likely referring to Qiankun Shu, a text on cosmology), I Ching (The Book of Changes), Taiyi (a traditional Chinese divination system), and Qimen Dunjia (an ancient metaphysical practice for divination and strategic planning).

In the 31st year of the Kangxi reign (1692), he suffered from a foot illness. Precept-Master Lü Yunyin (styled Yunyin) cured him. From this point on, Sun Taiguan began to devote himself wholeheartedly to metaphysical studies (Taoist esoteric learning) and practiced in accordance with Taoist precepts. He successively received the "Three Precepts" (a set of core Taoist ethical and religious precepts) from Lü Yunyin.

Sun Taiguan had a profound friendship ("bosom friend" relationship) with Xu Ziyuan. In the 40th year of the Kangxi reign (1701), he went to Jinge Mountain (Golden Canopy Mountain) to visit Xu Ziyuan, and resided there for nine years before returning to Guanshan Mountain.

He passed away at Guanshan Mountain in the 50th year of the Kangxi reign (1711) at the age of 92.

Sun Taiguan was the 9th-generation Precept-Master of the Longmen Sect (Dragon Gate Sect) of Taoism.
