Sun Yuanming (1046-1132) was a native of Qimen (now part of Anhui Province) during the late Northern Song Dynasty and early Southern Song Dynasty.
He styled himself "Yexian" (Wild Immortal). In the 1st year of the Shaoxing era (1131), he came to reside at Xizhen Rock of Dongyuan Guan (Dongyuan Taoist Temple), where he practiced the Taoist arts of "fuqi" (breathing exercises), "bigu" (abstaining from grain), and "ershi yuandan" (ingesting the primordial cinnabar elixir). He had the ability to predict people’s good or ill fortune, and his predictions always came true—people at that time held him in high esteem and trust.
