The Supreme Jade Scripture of Nine Mornings for Flight 太上飞行九晨玉经

As an early classic of the Shangqing School (Higher Clarity School) of Taoism, it was roughly compiled during the Eastern Jin Dynasty.

This text has already been cited in Volume Three of The Essential Secrets of the Supreme (Wushang Miyao). According to research, this scripture was originally a chapter of The Shangqing Supreme Scripture of Feathered Flight through the Nine Paths of Returning to the Origin (Shangqing Taishang Huiyuan Jiudao Feixing Yu Jing), and later became an independent volume.

It is included in the Daozang (Taoist Canon), under the category of "Yujue" (Jade Instructions) in the "Dongxuan" (Mysterious Grotto) section. The scripture expounds on the "Way of Nine Mornings for Flight". The term "Nine Mornings" (Jiuchen) refers to the Seven Stars of the Big Dipper, plus the two auxiliary stars (Fuxing and Bixing), collectively known as the "Nine Dippers" (Jiudou) or "Nine Stars" (Jiuxing).

Residing above these stars are the "Splendid Lords of the Nine Mornings" (Jiuchen Huajun), and in the middle are the "Nine Imperial Ladies" (Jiuhuang Furen), all of whom are the powerful divine beings of the Nine Dippers.

To practice the "Way of Nine Mornings for Flight", one must first take a bath and observe fasting to maintain purity. Then, a star chart should be laid out in the central courtyard, in alignment with the seasonal position of the Big Dipper. After that, the practitioner needs to visualize the given names, hidden taboos (secret names), attire, and appearances of the Nine Imperial Ladies and the Splendid Lords of the Nine Mornings respectively, and follow the star chart to perform the "Star-Stepping Ritual" (Niexing Budou) – a ritual where one steps in patterns corresponding to the stars.

It is said that those who practice this method can achieve the state of "the body becoming weightless, treading the void, and ascending to heaven naturally", and eventually attain the status of a "Supreme Immortal" (Shangxian).
