The Syncretic Commentary on Dao De Jing 道德真经注

Composed by Su Zhe of the Northern Song Dynasty.

Originally consisting of two volumes, the version in the Daozang (Daoist Canon) is divided into four volumes and included in the Yujue (Jade Commentary) category of the Dongshen Section.

This work advocates the doctrine of the Three Teachings sharing a common origin. Su Shi wrote a postscript for it, stating: "If this book had existed in the early Han Dynasty, Confucianism and Taoism would have been unified as one; if it had existed between the Jin and Liu-Song dynasties, Buddhism and Taoism would not have been regarded as two separate schools". The common origin of the Three Teachings lies in "attaining the middle and reaching perfect harmony". Thus, the commentary interprets the Laozi by quoting the Confucian classic Doctrine of the Mean and the Buddhist theory of Buddha-nature.
