Preface to the Compound Texts of the Scripture of Great Peace

The author of this text is unknown.

It mentions that "the Southern Dynasties perished and China was revived", which indicates that it was written in the early Tang Dynasty.

The original text is appended to the version of The Scripture of Great Peace in Daozang (the Taoist Canon), and outlines the origin and complete transmission process of The Scripture of Great Peace.

The preface states that the Holy Lord of Great Peace, the Later Sage of the Golden Tower of the Supreme Heaven, composed four chapters of the "Compound Texts of Great Peace", totaling 2,128 characters.

It was first passed down to the Supreme Minister Green Boy Lord and the Supreme Chancellor West City King Lord. The West City King Lord then transmitted it to his disciple Bo He, who passed it on to Yu Ji at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty.

Based on these four chapters of the "Original Texts of Great Peace", Yu Ji expanded and developed them into The Scripture of Great Peace with 170 volumes and 366 chapters. During the chaos and fall of the Southern Dynasties, the scripture ceased to circulate.

In the reign of Emperor Xuan of Chen, the Taoist priest Zhou Zhixiang, by imperial order, retrieved this text from Haiyu Mountain, often studied and taught it himself, and was known as the "Master of Great Peace" at that time.

According to the above account, the "Compound Texts of Great Peace" should refer to the four chapters of talismanic secret texts recorded in volumes 104 to 107 of the existing version of The Scripture of Great Peace, with a total of 2,133 characters.

This text has reference value for researching the origin, evolution and versions of The Scripture of Great Peace.
